Xian, the capital of Shaanxi province, was once a capital city of China for about 13 dynasties. Formerly known as Chang'an, this historical city has been known for being part of the Silk Road, the larger than life representation of soldiers and horses, and its once grand past seen in structures and relics of more than three centuries old.

Bell Tower Hotel Xian - strategic downtown location for visiting the Bell tower with restaurants, and Muslim quarter nearby. A night costs less than a hundred USD. You can also ask help from them for tour package for the sights to see. Address is at Nan Dajie, in front of the Bell Tower in downtown. If you are riding a shuttle bus from the airport Take the get off on the second stop which would be a few meters away from the hotel.
Three and two stars
Shaanxi Wen Yuan Hotel Xian - located at the city center with easy access to transportation and the Bell Tower in a not so far distance. A night can cost as low as about US$40. Address is at 8, She Hui Road, 710003 Xian, China.
Budget lodge for Backpackers
HQ Hostel Xi'an - Very cozy place and intended well for backpackers. They have dormitories for 6 or 8 people. There is a room for two but is often not available. Muslim Quarters has an abundant collection of street vendors and cheap food. Try jinggao or Zenggao, small round cake type of sticky rice, honey and dates at Lord of Jinggao of Southeast Asia, persimmon cake or huang gui, baozi, kebabs and of course dumplings.
