As the de facto capital of Japan, Tokyo is the seat of the Japanese government and is home to the Japanese Imperial Family. The city has a fast paced life along the busy main roads and back roads have the peace and tranquility of gardens and temples.

Sights to See

  • Disneyland - As like any other place, Mickey and comrades have worked their charm.
  • Imperial Palace- The palace and inner garden are opened only to public for two days of the year, January 1 and on the Emperor's birthday December 23rd. You may have a guided tour of the outer gardens though if your visit does not fall on those days.
  • Amusement Parks
  • Museums

Shopping Spree

  • Akihibara- Electronics abound in this area. From mobile phones, computers, games, etc.
  • Gizan - High quality and famous signature products can be found here. Electronic shops and department stores dot the area. Prices can be a little expensive though
  • Nakamise market, Asakusa - they have local crafts and souvenirs. It is located near Sensoji or Kannon temple
  • 100 Yen shop- Everything is priced at about a dollar.Sells some foodstuff, toiletries, cosmetics, and souvenir items. Several shops are found in Tokyo. Shibuya, Harajuku, Shinjuku.




Accommodations

Five and Four Stars

Imperial Hotel - It deserves the royal touch in its name. The service, amenities, location, and ambience of this hotel will give you back your money's worth. For $274 a night at the minimum, you enjoy luxury.

Intercontinental ANA Tokyo- A member of ANA Hotel group, under the control of All Nippon Airways. It is a good four star choice if you want to enjoy Tokyo's nightlife in Roponggi. Service is also noted to be excellent. Room rates start at minimum of $228.

Century Southern Tower- A four star hotel in Shinjuku, center of Tokyo. Rooms are spacious and are located on high elevation thus offering a good view of the city. Room rates are at minimum of $135 for offpeak season. It is suggested you try to check online for discounted booking. Staff speak English and are accomodating.

Two and Three Stars

Shinagawa Prince Hotel - A two star hotel located about 200 meters from Shingawa Station and 5 kilometers to Ginza, a shopping district in Tokyo. Rates can start as low as 90 USD. However, internet is not free and is in public area.



Dining Places

  • Tsukiji Sushi Iwa - Serves the sushi(raw fish) fresh from the tank. Average meal may cost US$11-20. Branches may be found in Narita Airport Terminal 1 center Bldg,4/F;Tsukiji Market; Takashimaya Bldg.,Shinjuku
  • Yoshinoya - A fast food chain serving reasonably priced Japanese meal. Meal costs less than US$10. Famous for rice topped with meat- pork, beef,or chicken. Store is found all over Tokyo and has an orange signboard with the English tranlation. However the people serving there do not know much English but you can choose from the pictures in their menu.
  • McDonalds - may sound too familiar but it is not just an asylum for those who are not suited to Japanese food. They also have some traditional twist in their menu such as Ebisu Burger, Teriyaki burger, and Marron pie. You cannot missed out the big M when looking for the store. Regular meal costs less than US$ 10.
