Surabaya is the capital of the East Java province and the second largest city of Indonesia. It was established along the mouth of the Mas River and Madura Straight thus serving as a major port.

Sights to See
- Monkasel or Old Submarine an Indonesian flagship that showcases various rooms.

- Mt. Bromo - in the outskirt of the city about 3 hours away. Special package are available in local tour operators and it includes price for transportation and accommodation.
- Kya Kya Kembang Jepun or Chinatown - also known as Walking Street. A bit of solemnity here compared to other Chinatowns although there are already some foodstalls and sing-along on the street. Location is just across the Red Bridge. This bridge itself is a historical site which had witnessed the most savage fighting during the WWII.
- Tugu Pahlawan a.k.a. as Hero's Monument- a dedication for their fallen heroes during the Independence War of 1945-1949. There is a museum nearby to tell the story of the past. Location is at Taman Kebonroyo, Pahlawan Street, Central Surabaya. It stands directly opposite the building housing the East Java Governor.
Shopping Spree
- Galaxy Mall - has many shops selling jewelries, books, furniture, and fashionable wears. There are also restaurants, supermarket, movie theater, bakeries and foodcourts in it. Location is in the east area of the city, along Kertajaya Indah Timur Street.
- Plaza Tunjungan - the biggest shopping center in the city with four buildings of various shops and eateries. It has also a direct link to Surabaya Sheraton Hotel. Location is at Jalan Basuki Rahmat, Surabaya.
- Mirota - a souvenir shop where you may dig some antiques and handicrafts. It is located in Sulawesi 24, around the downtown area. You may contact tel. # +62 - 31- 501 8110 for information and direction.
- Supermall Pakuwon Indah - the mall on the western side of Surabaya. A rather new option for shopping especially those by the Shangrila area.

Five and Four Stars
Surabaya Hilton International - a good place for golfers giving them access to an 18-hole course. Name has been recently changed to Singgasana Hotel You may check their website at www.surabaya.singgasanahotel.com .
Shangri-La Hotel Surabaya - so far no negative feedback have been recieved about this hotel so must be real good and deserving to be rated as # 1. Address is at Jalan May Jend Sungkono no. 120, Surabaya 60256 Indonesia.
Three and two stars
Elmi Hotel - strategically located in the heart of the city and has many facilities that can go beyond their star rating. Location is at Jalan Panglima Sudirman 42-44, Surabaya 60271 Indonesia, which is aout 2 kms from Gubeng train station. You may contact them at tel. # 31-5322571.
Dining Places
Sitara - Indian restaurant but also serves Chinese food. Price is about average and a full meal will cost you less than $10. Location s at Jl. Brawijaya.
Kya Kya Chinatown - many decent eateries to have a taste of street food although may not be classy.
