Filipinos are naturally great lovers of fun and party with still many fanatically devoted to their faith. Almost any occasion is an opportunity to celebrate. Aside from the ones listed here, many fiestas and anniversaries are commemorated especially in the provinces mostly Saints' days from which the names of town and cities are derived.

January
9th :: Black Nazarene Procession in Quiapo Church, Manila - A long procession in which the center of attention is a carved blackwood image of Jesus Christ, the black Nazarene. Thousands of Catholic crowd to the street not just to have a glimpse but with many striving to touch the image.
2nd weekend :: Sinulog in Cebu City- another faith-related celebration where honor and commemoration is given to the child Jesus or Santo Nino. A procession usually precedes a day before the festivities of colorful street dancing and float displays, and a field dance contest. The streets are usually closed to vehicles and is lined with vendors and stalls selling various crafts, food, and drinks.
3rd weekend :: Ati atihan in Kalibo a reminiscence of the friendship between Bornean datus and the black natives of the Panay Island. When the datus bought a piece of land from the inhabitants, they had some merry-making where the visitors painted themselves black to appear like the inhabitants. Gradually ,the pagan celebration had an added Christian meaning due to missionaries that came to the country.
Appey in Bontoc region - a three day thanksgiving festival where chickens and pigs are slaughtered and offered in gratitude for a bountiful harvest.
4th weekend :: Dinagyang Festival of Ilo ilo City - a replica of the Ati Atihan of Aklan and is much similar to the Sinulog with street dancing and parades.
