Patuxay
From Wikiasiantravel
Patuxay is a monument situated at the middle of the capital city, Vientiane. Its name literally translates to Gate of Triumph. It is a standing dedication to the patriots who fought for independence from France. In contrast to this, Patuxay slightly resembles the Arc de Triomphe in Paris but is definitely Laotian with regards to its adornments. The funds used to build it came from America and was supposed to be used for building an airport. This prominent landmark is a picturesque sight standing on the Lan Xang Boulevard. It is also a good viewpoint overlooking Vientiane.
