Taichung's people puts much importance on putting "green space" in their city for relaxation and pleasure of the community. Thus a number of workers, students and senior citizens can be found there after a day's work or on weekends.


Public Parks

Taichung Park - the former Chung San Park is the oldest park of the city which dates back to over 100 years ago, reign of the Ching Dynasty. During Japanese colonial period, it was improved and used even by the Japanese prince. To be seen are pavilions, a lake in which one can go boating, pathway lined with trees, and performances and cultural displays during festivals.

Location: Old Downtown area with Sanmin, GongYuan and ShuangShi Rds., at its borders.

Taichung Metropolitan Park - an 88 hectare park sitting atop the Dadu Mountain, providing a bird's eye view of the city and Central Mountain Range. To be seen are ponds, sun dial, walking paths, an acacia forest with several flora and fauna, a Tourist Service Center and outdoor performance area. There are also some Star gazing guides.

Indoor facilities: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Central Grounds: 6 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Scenic Viewing Area 6 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Feng Le Sculpture Park - home to more than 50 outdoor sculptures dotting the grounds and along pathways. A lake can be found at the center and a vast area of green grass. The park is also used as venue for special concerts and other performances.

Location: intersection of XiangXin (HsiangHsin) South and WenXin (WenShin) South 5th roads

Zhong Zheng Park this park dates back to 1977 but had undergone renovations and reopened in 2004. It has a vast area of grasslands, some walkways, and an activity center.

Location: ' XueShi Road near intersection of WuQuan Road borders it. Adjacent to Chung Shan Hall, the largest concert venue of the city.

Amusement Parks

This two parks are right next to each other and are under the same administration. Thus contact details and directions are the same.


Mala Bay Discovery World - a themed park with six areas of interest. The park takes pride in its space exploration area which even had used the help of NASA for building its facilities. Other areas are themed on fairy tale, forest, palace and island. There are various rides, games, stalls selling foods and drinks, and shops.

Hours Open : 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Fees: Adult: NTD 700 (increased by a hundred on July-August)  :: Children (taller than 110): NTD 550  :: Children( 90-110 cm) NTD 350  :: Free for children below 90 cm

Parking fees: NTD 100


Water World a great summer get away to enjoy some water splash. There are varied slides, pools with synthesized waves, a water fun house, children's pool, a volley ball area, and a for those who just want to sit and enjoy the surrounding.


Hours Open : 9 a.m.-9 p.m. weekdays, opens 8:30 a.m. on weekends (shortened for September and October to close at 6 p.m.)

Discounts are given for groups and those coming after 4 p.m.

Others

Children's Park - a project of the City Government for children's development. More than the ordinary greenery, the park has an activity center with several classrooms with different purposes such as art, music, guidance, reading, and others simply to play and enjoy games. Occasionally, cultural and artistic activities are held for parents and children.
