Parks of Kaohsiung, Taiwan

  • Labor Park - a venue to get together not only for workers after work hours but also for students who make use of the sports field, and of senior citizens who wish for some company. Flowers for sale abound during weekends and add to the colorful and lively surrounding of the park. To get there, one can take bus # 12, 36, 69, 71, 78, 301 or the airport bus line.


  • Sanmin Parks - composed of two parks. Park 1 is known for the bicycle and skating paths while Park 2 is known for lush gardens where the largest of Taiwan's Hakka Culture Museum is located. One can take Bus # 24, 92 or 301 from city center to reach this park.


  • Chai Mountain Natural Park - although under military jurisdiction,, a portion of it has been opened to tourists who wish to enjoy the natural forests and sights of Formosan rock monkeys and rock formations. Take bus # 1,2 or 60 then get off at Takung Road Roundabout and transfer to bus # 219. On Holidays, a shuttle bus can be ridden from the station.


  • Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park- a bit modernized park with facilities to enjoy sports, and the beauty of natural surrounding while getting insights on environmental concerns. To get there, one can take bus # 5 or #18 from the train station to the Southern Bus Depot in Tsoying and transfer to bus # 29 and get off at Kaohsiung Office of Motor Vehicle Inspection. The park is right across the said office.


  • Indigenous Botanical Garden home to about 60 species of Taiwanese plants, some even of the poisonous types. The plants are labeled as to their names, features and special usage. The park is near the area of the Lotus Lake in Tsoying District. One can take a ride in bus # 24, 92 or 301 to reach there.


  • Golden Lion Lake Scenic Area - known for its Civil Farm, a netted butterfly garden that had been developed to save the endangered species of butterflies. The entire area includes a lake, Pao'an and Taote Temples and an incinerator-established recreational facility. To get there, one can ride bus #24 from the train station and get off at Minstu Stop for a transfer to bus # 79.


  • Jenai Park - an extension of the romance of the Love River. Strolling on its lanes, lovers and couples can enjoy the colorful scenic view during the day and the lightings at night. The park is also used as a venue for the Lantern parade and occasionally for concerts. One can take bus # 1, 2, 60, 78, 93, and the Chai Mountain shuttle bus to go there. It is located across the Kaohsiung City Government building.
