Osaka, the third largest city after Tokyo and Yokohama has ever since been the center for commerce of Japan.. It is also tagged as gourmet food capital of Japan known for its street food.

Sights to See

  • Osaka Castle - originally built in 15th century but had been destroyed and burnt but was rebuilt and restored as to what it is today. Majestically situated within a park. Don't expect much antiquity or the grandeur of a palace inside as it had been converted into a museum. Click on the name to view pictures and more details.

  • Universal Studio - a theme park just like in California but with a touch of Japanese Techie. Several rides available, food stores, 3d and animated shows.




Shopping Spree

  • Den Den Town - It is known for electronics. Mobile Here you will find all sorts of gadgets imaginable and the unexpected.
  • Shinsaibashi - a covered arcade with a streetful of shopping departments. You may find all sorts of stuff from cosmetics, dresses, bags, and other souvenirs. Shopping is not only on the street but also under it!






Accommodations

  • Hotel Chuo- For the one tight in budget and can make do with a small space. Room rates can be as low as $22 for a night if you get lucky.


  • Hotel Taiyo - Another budget place located at the heart of Osaka. It is quiet,simple and clean. They offer free internet access to their patrons and also have TV, AC, and ref. There is no private restroom though. A curfew at midnight is observed so if you think you will go beyond, you must inform reception which is 24 hours open.Room rates can be as low as $18.


  • Just some comments that were found in Yahoo Travel Review: it seems that some people are saying that they didn't have a pleasant stay in Osaka Downtown Hostel because of the rude behavior of the host and a crowded accommodation.

Dining Places

Dotonbori Street - a street full of and known for many eateries including okinomiyaki and takoyaki. Although most who serve do not speak English, you can choose your food by pointing to what you think is appealing. Many restaurants serve seafoods especially the Fugu, a fish that can be poisonous if not handled well but is very delicious and known to have an aphrodisiac effect. There is also a shabu-shabu where you eat all you can for less than $USD 20 within 90 minutes.


Burger Stores When you get sick of seafood and want to have a bite of burger, here are some stores to visit:

  • Hard Rock Cafe - near Universal Studio but can be a little expensive
  • Mc Donalds - the big M can't be missed
  • Mos Burger -
  • Lotteria
  • Freshness Burger although burgers are delicious, they are served in small portions
