Behold the Himalayan Mountain Ranges! It is somewhat contradicting to find in this rather small country, eight out of ten of the highest mountains in the world. The highest, Mount Everest, which is the extreme destination for a mountaineer, can also be found here. Welcome to Nepal, a country rich in tourist treasures!

Buses

Buses in Nepal are one of the convenient ways of getting around for tourists. Local buses are very light to the pocket and will get you around the city for a low price. City buses tend to stop services around 8 p.m. There are also luxury buses available for intercity travels. These are mainly tourist buses provided by several companies in Kathmandu. It is a bit more pricey compared to the local buses but are more comfortable since the local buses can be crowded at times. The luxury buses makes stop-overs in some areas for a look-see at the sceneries and lunch or may sometimes serve snacks en route. The Gongabu Bus Park is where buses leave from Kathmandu to other parts of Nepal. It is located in the Ring Road at the northern area. Booking a ticket one day in advance is advisable.

Others

Cycle rickshaws can be found in urban places and other areas where cars aren't as convenient. It is a good substitute for walking around, are cheap and easy to find. Auto-rickshaws, a motorized version, are also common in many areas and are better for longer trips than the pedal-powered rickshaw. These three-wheeled vehicles offer a good means of transportation in marketplaces, some tourist attractions and other crowded places.

Vehicle rental is also available in most of the cities of Nepal. Having a driver along with the car would be a good idea so as to avoid some difficulties in going around caused by traffic and rough roads. An International Driving License is accepted in Nepal.
