Naypyidaw has been the capital for a short time only with the movement from Yangon beginning only 6th of November 2005. The capital is still under development from a former greenfield site three kilometers west of Pyinmana and several hundred of kilometers north of Yangon. The name, which means "Royal City" or "abode of kings", was only officially announced on Armed Forces Day in March 2006. '

Accommodations
Currently, tourists are only allowed to stay in the "Hotel Zone" where about up to 6 resorts can be found. Villas are provided set in manicured lawns but excellence and privacy cannot be 100% assured.
