- Love River - formerly a stinking canal that passses through the center of the city. The city government had tride to revived it and clean up a bit. Presently, many enjoy the early morning view while watching people and the night view, watching lights. Some boats are rented during fair weather. The atmosphere gets livelier and crowd is greater during the Lantern Festival.

Five and Four Stars Hotel

Grand Hi-Lai Hotel - easy accessibility to transportation with buses having 5-10 minutes interval and with one routed to the train station. Address is at No 266, Cheng-Kung 1ST Rd, Kaohsiung Taiwan.
Kaohsiung Chinatrust Hotel -some rooms offer a great view of the city. Location is about two blocks from Love River so eateries are nearby. Address is at 43 Tajen Rd, Kaohsiung Taiwan.
Howard Plaza Hotel Kaoshiung - Price is relatively cheaper than the other five stars but the service and rooms are not compromised. Address is at 311 Chi Hsien 1 Rd., Kaohsiung 800 Taiwan.
International Citizen - Although may look a bit old, it is far from being shabby and it has spacious rooms and long tub. Shops are located within walking distance. Address is at 134 Cheng Chen 1 Road, Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Ambassador Hotel good view of the river and with many restaurants. Facilities may not be so excellent though, including pool and fitness center. Address is at 202, Ming Sheng 2ND Rd

Two and Three Stars - There are plenty of five and four stars than can be booked for the price almost the same price as three or two stars. Some have four star rating but actually deserves a three.
Backpackers and Budget Lodge
Kaohsiung Hostel 202 - has several spaces for tourists including apartment and studios aside from its backpacker accommodation. It is located near the Love River and close to many shops and restaurants. Address is at 202 Gwang-Fu 3rd St., Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Dining Places
Mushroom Garden Hot Pot Restaurant - name is suggestive of their specialty- mushroom soup. Address is at 17, Wenshin Rd., Sec. 1.
Osteria Chianti - Serves Italian food and has a good variety of wines to offer. European ambiance and price are a bit on the high end. Address is at 138, TongCing Road, LingYa District, Kaohsiung, a short distance to the East entrance of the Culture Centre.
Ocean Size Ice cream Store - a famous treat opposite of the Gushan Ferry Pier on the Shaochuan Streets. Nearby are also some Japanese restaurants.
Street Food - a lot of vendors litter the streets selling various snacks, bbqs, and local dishes. It is a good experience also to mingle with locals and watch people around you. Some famous streets to sample the local cuisine are Wufu 4th Road, Hsinleh St., Lainan St., Da-ren Road. Wufu 1st Rd., Linde St., Linchuan St., Hein St., are line with eateries too but the restaurants are more of the decent modern style.
