Japan seems to have a festival almost in any time of the year somewhere in the different cities or towns. A Matsuri or local festival is usually sponsored by a local shrine or temple and held during late summer or early autumn.

9th :: Kiku no Sekku or Chrysanthemum Festival

15th :: Shichi-Go-San or Festival for Children aged 3,5, and 7

December

23rd :: Emperor's Birthday

31st :: Omisoka or New Year's Eve
