Haw Kham is commonly known as the Royal Palace Museum. It was once a Royal Palace but was then converted to a museum during the transition to communism. It's design is done in a combination of Lao and French. The most significant and priced item in the museum would be the Phra Bang Buddha. It is a rather small statue made of almost pure gold and may weigh up to 50 kg. It is said to be the statue from which he city took its name.
