When one has all the money, it is easier to enjoy oneself and spend lavishly. However, having a tight budget doesn't always mean you can't have fun. A trip to Asia can give you the best of both world- a luxury of the same grandeur as the West and a tailored budget cut that you can only find in Asian countries.
A primary must-do thing if you want to save is have a plan. We have a Planning your trip page to guide you. As you do your plan have some of these consideration:
- Can you take your vacation in the off peak months? Prices for accommodations and flights are usually lower at this time.
- What do you want your vacation to be? If you plan to see a country from more than one place, you can try to get an accommodation outside the city where you can have an easy access. Usually, they are a lot cheaper.
- Can you travel with a group? Usually, group tours are cheaper if divided among many people and more convenient in terms of transportation and accommodation as you could have it organized.
When you are packing for your trip check that you have the essentials. Have a checklist and make sure all that you need is there. It would be an additional expense if you left your hair dryer and you get pissed off when you have bad hair days, and so you would have to buy another one. You may check www.virtualtourist.com which had some travelers' list some suggestions for packing.
Consider also preparing flash cards especially for countries where majority are non-English speaking. This cards can be simple print-outs of hotel name, restaurants, shops or places to see. This can help you in giving directions to taxi drivers and save you time and talk as well.
When you are in your place of destination, if it can be helped, do not buy your basic needs from the hotel or tourist spots. Usually they are much overpriced than buying from a local grocery. Basic needs here can mean a bottle of water, tissues, disposables stuff like shavers, etc. Of course common sense applies. If a grocery store is too far and you would spend more to go there, then by all means, use the better alternative.
Be careful with unforeseen expenses especially if you are the type who gets caught up with lovely things or some nice talks. Many people usually fall prey to tourist traps of hawkers because these deceivers try to help and later sell you things that are not worth the price. Usually in markets, you can haggle with prices. Do not buy simply because it is cheap. It can be cheaper even than you think. Make bargains. Criticize well. You might come across some signature or branded products that attracts you so much because of the cheap price. Think well and make sure that it is not a fake one.
